Our Structural Instrumentation Tools
Our Structural Instrumentation
Structural health monitoring is essential for ensuring the stability, safety and longevity of infrastructure. At Monitel, we provide tailored structural monitoring systems using high-precision sensors designed for real-time data collection and long-term analysis. Whether you are monitoring bridges, tunnels, dams, buildings, or retaining walls, our solutions help detect movement, stress and potential weaknesses before they become critical.
How Do We Create Structural Monitoring Systems?
No two structures are the same, which is why we tailor our solutions to the unique needs of each project. Our approach begins with a detailed site assessment, where we identify key risk areas and determine the most suitable instrumentation. We then speak with you, determining your preferences and any budget constraints.
We integrate multiple sensor types into a single system that will provide a comprehensive view of structural performance over time.
Monitel systems report to you through automated data logging and remote monitoring platforms, ensuring continuous access to real-time data. This allows for proactive maintenance and reduces repair costs whilst complying with industry standards.
Tools
Crackmeters
Crackmeters track crack movement in concrete, rock and masonry structures. The VWCM-4000 Vibrating Wire Crack Meter is one of our most popular and reliable tools, offering high-resolution measurements of crack width changes. This sensor provides long-term stability and works in harsh environmental conditions, making it ideal for wall monitoring, as well as bridges, tunnels, and buildings.
Integrating crackmeters with automated data acquisition systems ensures that clients can monitor crack behaviour in real time and identify early signs of deterioration before they lead to structural failure.
Inclinometers
Inclinometers measure angular movement within a structure or the surrounding ground. These sensors are commonly used for monitoring walls, embankments, tunnels and excavation sites, tracking ground displacement and structural shifts.
Monitel stocks the In-Place Inclinometer (IPI), which provides continuous monitoring of lateral movement to reduce the need for manual readings. With real-time data transmission, our inclinometer solutions allow for early detection of instability, helping asset managers implement timely corrective actions.
Strain Gauges
Strain gauges measure stress and strain within structural components, providing data on load distribution and material behaviour. These sensors are crucial for bridges, high-rise buildings, tunnels and dams, where excessive strain can indicate potential failure points. Wall monitoring is also a common application for these tools.
The VWS-2000 Surface-Mount Vibrating Wire Strain Gauge is one of Monitel’s most effective instruments for long-term strain monitoring. It offers accuracy and durability, even in extreme environments. Incorporating strain gauges into our monitoring systems helps engineers assess structural performance and ensure long-term stability.
Accelerometer Node
Vibration monitoring assesses structural health and detects excessive movement. Monitel stocks a range of precision accelerometers, such as the Viotel Accelerometer, to monitor vibration in bridges, tunnels, and industrial structures.
This wireless, battery-powered device transmits real-time vibration data, allowing for remote monitoring and early warning detection. With low power consumption and high sampling rates, our accelerometer solutions provide a cost-effective and reliable way to track structural vibrations over time.
Ensure Your Structural Integrity with Monitel
At Monitel, we pride ourselves on being technology and product agnostic. This means that we are not tied to any specific brands or products and will always find the right solution for our customers.
A decision may be guided by price or features, so we work closely with our clients to understand their requirements and challenges. Maintaining a solutions-based approach ensures that our clients receive an effective and efficient monitoring plan tailored to them.
This commitment extends to our structural monitoring systems. Monitel will always seek to create the most reliable, data-driven systems possible, whether it be for vibration monitoring, wall monitoring or another application. Combining tools such as crackmeters, inclinometers, strain gauges and accelerometers best positions you to detect risks early, optimise your maintenance and comply with safety standards.
